Physician and Liver Surgeon Dr. Joshua Barton’s life changed significantly as a result of a hit and run crash that occurred at the intersection of West Hays Street and 9th Street in Boise. Dr. Barton was riding his bicycle to work and had entered into the intersection when a car also driving down West Hayes Street made a right and turn and hit Dr. Barton while he was in the intersection and then kept on going down 9th Street without stopping. Dr. Barton sustained severe personal injuries as a result of the crash including 2 broken bones in his neck requiring surgery that has prevented him from continuing his work as a liver surgeon while he convalesces from his injuries. He has been reported as being the only liver surgeon in the Treasure Valley. Many of his patients are reported having to go out of state for their life saving surgeries, because he is still involved in the recuperating process awaiting surgery. If you are aware of anyone who have any knowledge of the crash, Boise City Police ask that you call them at 208.343.COPS (208.343.2677). Your tip can be made anonymously if you wish.

Peoples lives can be irrevocably changed as a result of someone’s temporary lapse in judgment which results in a bicyclist being injured as a result of a bicycle/motor vehicle crash. Dr. Barton suggests that bicyclists need to wear a helmet while riding a bike. In this case, Dr. Barton indicates that his helmet saved his life. Auto drivers need to give bicyclist’s wide bert, and be on the lookout for bicyclists while driving on Boise’s City Streets.
