What All Helicopter Passengers Need to Know Before Boarding

You’ve always wanted to ride in a helicopter, and now you’re about to do it. Flying over Boise and the surrounding areas gives you a unique view of where you live, and it is quite enjoyable and exciting.

Just like all other aircrafts, helicopters can be extremely dangerous. Weather, pilot error, and helicopter malfunctions can all contribute to accidents, but if you know the proper safety techniques, you could prevent yourself from becoming seriously injured should a disaster strike.

Passenger Safety Tips

Although you can’t prevent an accident, you could keep yourself safe by following these tips:

  • Buckle up. Although it may seem like common sense to use a seat belt when on a helicopter, some passengers become too distracted or excited to implement this valuable safety device. A seat belt could stop you from becoming ejected in a crash, and could prevent you from becoming injured if you experience turbulence.
  • Obey the pilot and crew’s orders. The pilot and crew of the helicopter often work on the aircraft daily and are experienced in how it operates. Therefore, you should always obey the instructions they give. They are aware of the design and methods in which the vessel operates—they know how to keep you safe. Obeying their orders could prevent you from becoming seriously injured.
  • Make yourself aware of the safety equipment. Helicopters are typically fitted with safety equipment that can save your life if you are involved in an accident. Some of this equipment includes personal safety devices and water survival equipment. Ask the crew questions about using these devices if they do not show you on their own, and inquire about procedures that may help you should an accident occur.
