Slick Conditions on I-84 Result in Fatality

Posted on Dec 02, 2014

BOISE -- Rain and near freezing conditions during last night and the early morning hours created a number of car crashes including one fatality in the Treasure Valley causing the closure of westbound I-84 near the Oregon border.

The westbound lanes of I-84 were reported closed last night approximately 30 miles west of Ontario and 4 miles west of Huntington due to a fatal semi-truck rollover on Lime Bridge according to a report filed by the Oregon State Police. Hazard conditions are reported in the area.

Last night (Monday) near 6:00 p.m. Oregon State Police responded to a crash involving a semi-truck hauling a box type 53 foot trailer traveling westbound on I-84 near milepost 342.

The truck driver was attempting to negotiate a curve and lost control of the rig on the icy road. The semi slid off the road due to icy conditions and went into the median over an embankment into a guardrail. Unfortunately, the driver was killed as a result of the accident. Following the crash, two other vehicles hit the semi-truck - a passenger vehicle and a small box-type truck which were unable to avoid the trailer. Occupants of both vehicles were taking by ambulance to the hospital in Baker City. Road conditions in many places are slick and in some places hazardous.

Be careful out there if you are driving on Idaho’s highways.
