NAMPA - Yesterday morning at around 5:17 a.m., 64 year-old John Pew was driving in a northerly direction on Northside Boulevard in Nampa when a horrendous collision took place because a Chevy Impala going westbound on I-84 catapulted off of an overpass and landed on top of Mr. Pew’s pickup truck. The crash occurred where I-84 crosses over Northside Boulevard. The Idaho State Police which investigated the crash reports that 21 year-old Tyler Callahan of Weiser, Idaho was driving westbound on I-84 when he lost control of his car and went off the side of the overpass. Callahan’s car then catapulted onto Northside Boulevard and crashed on top of Pew’s pickup truck. Callahan had two juvenile passengers in his car at the time of the crash. All were taken to the hospital where Mr. Pew succumbed to his injuries and died.
A review of the public criminal record of Tyler D. Callahan reveals that in March, 2015 he was charged and convicted of the use and possession of drug paraphernalia with the intent to deliver as well as possession of a controlled substance. In July, 2015, he was charged and convicted of speeding. In July, 2012, he was charged with reckless driving which was pled down to a lesser charge of inattentive or careless driving to which he entered a plea of guilty. Earlier this month on March 3, 2016, he was charged with speeding which he entered a guilty plea thereto. In August, 2015, he was charged and convicted of speeding and failing to stop and yield the right-of-way from a stop and/or yield sign. In October, 2010, he was charged with illegal possession of an alcoholic beverage. In September, 2010, he was charged and convicted of driving inattentively or carelessly.
Some people posing on social media have suggested that this incident was "just an accident," but as we have discussed before, there is no such thing as anything happening just because it was an accident. Every collision has a cause and effect. Typically, collisions are the result of at least one driver’s negligent driving. On some occasions, collisions can be the result of the failure of a product that was defectively designed or manufactured, and/or a combination of both negligent driving and a defective auto part.
The investigation by the Idaho State Police is continuing and ongoing, however, justice dictates that the cause of this collision be determined and then results of that infestation be released to the public.
