MERIDIAN – Officers from the Meridian Police Department report that on Friday morning around 8:00 a.m. an 81 yr old woman was driving a car northbound on Locust Grove Road near Commercial Street swerved across the center line into oncoming traffic and caused a collision with a landscaping truck pulling a trailer headed south. Police further report that the 81 yr old driver was distracted at the time she lost control of her vehicle as she was attempting to answer her cell phone causing her to take her eyes off the road. A passenger in the landscaping truck was taken to the hospital by ambulance for non-life threatening injuries. Two other individuals drove themselves to the hospital as well. The 81 yr old driver was cited for inattentive driving which in Idaho constitutes a misdemeanor. The violation of a safety statute in the State of Idaho constitutes negligence per se.
